Schools are beginning to wind down for the summer, but as every educator knows, the learning doesn't stop in June. The uninitiated may think that teachers get a 3-month vacation in the summer, but the reality is, many teachers start preparing for their next group of students a lot sooner than August. So, for those of you who are in search of some new ideas for your classroom, take a look at these three opportunities from Grant Wood AEA to keep you topped up over the summer months.

1. The Edtech Take Out Podcast

Are you a podcast listener? More and more people are because it is a convenient, on-demand medium that can be listened to on almost any device. Their are podcasts for just about any topic you can think of and here at Grant Wood AEA we have one that is specifically designed for teachers who are interested in new ways to use technology in their classrooms.

If you've never listened to a podcast before, we've got your covered. Read How to Listen and Subscribe to Podcasts on Any Device for help on how to get started. You can listen to The Edtech Take Out on our website at www.dlgwaea.org/podcast, or you can get a feel for one of our latest episodes by clicking play below. If you have questions, comments or ideas for future shows, feel free to email us at podcast@gwaea.org.

2. The Think Make Innovate YouTube Show

Makerspaces in schools are bigger today than they ever have been, and we've been doing our part to support schools in the best way we can with that. One of the resources we created for our districts was the Think Make Innovate YouTube show. Each episode is a challenge-based maker activity that you can replicate with students thanks to a step-by-step video introduction and customizable lesson plan. Take a look at the Sphero Maze Challenge example below, and be sure to check out the rest of the episodes on our website.

3. The Think Make Innovate Makerspace Conference

I know what you're thinking. That Sphero Maze Challenge was awesome, right?! Well, there's plenty more where that came from at our 5-day Makerspace extravaganza on June 26-30, 2017. Join us for opportunities to learn from area teachers and leaders who specialize in creativity and innovation. The goal of Think, Make, Innovate Makerspace Conference is to provide educators with support and training with the makerspace movement to shift students from consumers of information into creators. There is a huge variety of learning experiences for you to choose from and our keynote speaker for the event is the amazing Krissy Venosdale. It's not too late to sign up. Learn more here.

So, enjoy your well earned break. Take some time to yourself and get out and enjoy the amazing summer weather. You know you deserve it! But when you're ready to learn again, we're here for you, and we have some great opportunities to help you succeed at what you do best.
