We are excited to announce a new PD opportunity for Iowa educators who are interested in learning more about creative uses of iPads in their classrooms. Here is some information on what you need to know about this class. Please share this post with anyone you think might be interested in this

This online class explores how teachers can make the most of an iPad as a creation tool in K-12 classrooms. Each learning module will focus on either audio, video, photo, digital storytelling or graphic design apps in order to explore curricular connections and enhance teaching and learning with technology. Participants are not required to purchase any apps for this class, but they MUST HAVE ACCESS TO AN IPAD, (2nd generation or later), as well as the ability to install apps, for the duration of this class.

This class assumes no previous knowledge, but will require participants to explore and learn new apps on their own time. As such, a basic understanding of how to navigate and use an iPad is preferred. The first class is a face-to-face orientation meeting, but the remainder of the learning will be conducted online in Canvas.

There are 5 online modules that will focus on either photo, video, audio, storytelling or graphic design apps. Participants will be encouraged to choose apps that are new to them, and options will be provided for different grade levels to ensure maximum relevance for each educator. For each topic, participants will be asked to create a product that is related to the curriculum they teach, and to generate ideas for ways in which these apps could be integrated into an iPad classroom.

The face-to-face orientation session is 4:30-5:30pm on February 22, 2017. Participants will receive an overview of the class on that night, as well as instructions on how to access course materials and submit assignments. There will also be time for questions. The remainder of the class will be delivered in an online format with learning modules that are hosted in Canvas. Dates are provided for these modules on the GWAEA website. However, participants do not need to be available, or online, at these specific times due to the asynchronous nature of this course. Online modules and assignments will have due dates, but participants can work on the content at times of their choosing.

Getting Creative with iPads in K-12 Classrooms can be taken as a 1-credit hour class for license renewal in the state of Iowa. If you are interested in gaining renewal credit, please select this option when you register, or contact the Professional Development team at Grant Wood AEA for more information.
